http://www.dogpile.com  A multiple search engine.  Puts same query through many, many search engines, such as Yahoo, Excite, Hotbot, Altavista, Webcrawler, etc.

http://www.askjeeves.com  Another search engine that allows you to type a question in and get an answer, and it also checks the spelling of your query, which is important if you are not a good speller.

http://ajkids.com Is the children’s version of ask Jeeves, and is a good site for you to use.

http://www.yahooligans.com/ Yahoo's search engine for children.

http://excite.com/ A search engine that gives a percentage as to how closely it matches what you are searching for (example 90%) and a summary of what the site is about.  It also has something under each site that says:  “More sites like this.”  That is good, because if you find a great site you can click on back and then click on More sites like this to possibly find others with more information about the same thing you found in that site.

www.google.com A multiple search engine that allows you to limit your searches.

http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/KidsClick!/ksearch2.html  This site has MANY search engines of different types for kids, called Kids tools for searching the Internet.

Conducting a Boolean Search:   Use the words Both, and, or, and not.  Close your search in quotation marks.  For example, “Both Ireland and pictures.”
